Bartlesville Band and Orchestra Boosters

Bartlesville, Ok

Parents,

As we get deeper into the second semester, there is lots of information to share with you.  We have just finished with the junior high all-district honor band auditions, and we had six 8th grade students make one of two bands:
Bailey Covell and Spencer Heald on percussion;
Claire Sauer and Alex Shipman on trumpet;
Hannah Hardin on alto saxophone, and Collin Skalicky on bassoon;
Cody Peterson was selected as an alternate on French horn.
Congratulations to these students.  They worked very hard to prepare their music and had to compete with a lot of other very good players from our district.  Other Central students tried out and did well, but just missed being selected by a small amount.  I hope everyone decides to try out again next year.  The results are well worth the effort.

NBDA all-district honor band
NBDA will take place on Feb. 3 (Friday) and 4 (Saturday) at Claremore.  More information will be sent home as we get closer to those dates.  We hope that the parents of the participating students will plan to attend the concert on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 4th.

OSSAA District Band Contest
The OSSAA district contest will be held on March 14th at the Bartlesville FAC.  Times will be TBA.  This an important performance for the Central 8th grade band and we need the contributions of all our students.  It is important that all students be eligible for this contest.  Therefore parents, please help to insure that your child is passing all their classes.
In preparation for OSSAA District Band Contest we will have 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. sectionals.  Sectionals will occur one day per week for approximately 7 weeks.  We will follow the schedule below beginning Wednesday, Jan. 25th.

Wednesday—Flutes, Clarinets and Trumpets

Thursday—Trombone, Baritone, Tubas, and Bassoon

Friday—Horns and Saxophones

Students should plan to arrive about 7:35 a.m. in order to have time to warm up before the sectionals begin.  The band room and school will be open at 7:30 a.m.  If school is cancelled, sectionals will also be cancelled.

These sectionals will be part of the student’s grade and students should make every attempt to be there on time.  If there is a problem with transportation, please let Dr. Dugger know so that we can try and find a ride with someone who lives near the student.

Ireland- Spring Break of 2013.
By now you may have heard that next year’s high school band is planning a trip to Ireland during Spring Break of 2013.  The kids are starting to raise funds for that trip and the first down payment is $200 and that date will be coming up in the next couple of months.  The total price for the trip will be in the ballpark of $2,500.00.  With diligence, students can raise the entire amount through fundraisers provided by the band boosters.  We are currently in the midst of the first fundraiser—Blue and Gold Sausage—and the forms need to be turned in this Friday at the Central band room.  If a student misses this turn-in date, they should call the number on the form and inform Mrs. Divelbiss of what they have sold.  The product will be delivered about the first of February.   This is a trip of a lifetime and we hope all of our students will plan to take the trip.

Practice, Practice, Practice
Finally, the students will need to continue to turn in a practice log for 120 minutes per week. Effort and regular practice are the key ingredients for success on an instrument.  Please remind your child that they need to bring their horns and music home on a regular basis.  The practice requirement works out to 20 minutes per day and daily practice is much better than trying to cram in two hours on one day.  They should bring the log to you on Tuesday night for your signature and turn it in on Wednesday.
